Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Elective Prenatal Ultrasound?
We offer elective 2D, 3D, 4D prenatal ultrasounds to provide a positive bonding experience for the mother, father, family and friends with the unborn baby. We make no claims that 3D, as used in this examination, is performed to better assess the baby for abnormalities. A routine ultrasound examination must be performed to assess the gestational age of the fetus and to evaluate for fetal anomalies as well as the basic components of fetal anatomy recommended for screening.
Does this take place of an ultrasound at my doctor’s office?
Absolutely Not! Women seeking an elective prenatal ultrasound with Little Miracles Imaging MUST be receiving treatment with a healthcare provider for prenatal care and have already undergone a medical, diagnostic ultrasound ordered by their provider to confirm their due date, screen for fetal anomalies, and to look for any other pregnancy related issues. The issues that we are evaluating in the elective prenatal ultrasound session include a limited diagnostic scan to confirm heartbeat, the number of babies in the pregnancy, the position of the baby, and the placental location. Please note, at no time is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound. If we are suspicious of a possible abnormality, your doctor will be notified.
Is it safe? Are there any risks to me, or my baby?
Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal throughout the United States. In 3D/4D scanning exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning. 3D and 4D Ultrasound both utilize sound waves to look inside the body. The technology is similar to radar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. 4D ultrasound will be similar to a conventional scan in terms of exposure.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services. If you are looking for a same-day appointment, please call us at 910-778-5806 for availability.
Will I always get a beautiful image of my baby?
Every baby’s image is different and there are several factors that determine the clarity of an ultrasound image. The amount of fluid surrounding the baby, gestational age, the position of the baby, and the physical condition of the mother are a few of the factors that affect the image. We make no promises that the images will be similar to those you might have seen elsewhere or even from our clinic, or that we can always meet everyone’s expectations. We make every effort to obatain the best possible images and work with the mother trying various angles. There are times when the baby will not take the hands, feet, etc. away from the face. In that case, we invite you back for a complimentary return visit for all applicable packages. Please advise our refund and rescan policy.
Can I bring guests? How Many? Can children come?
Absolutely, we welcome family, friends, and children to share in this experience! We can comfortably seat 8-10 people. We would love for you to bring your children.
When is the best time to get a 3D4D ultrasound?
28-34 weeks is our preferred viewing stage (with some excpetions: 24-28 weeks for multiples, prior to 30 weeks for anterior placenta). However, it really depends on when you wish to see your baby. Earlier in your pregnancy, you will see cute, tiny body parts and often the baby is moving quite a bit. Mid pregnancy the baby is growing and filling out and you are able to better see facial features. Later pregnancy will show a full faced baby, and chubby hands and feet, but not usually in the same frame as they are larger now, unless of course they have the hand or foot in the face!
When’s the earliest you can see baby’s gender?
Gender determination/confirmation starts at 14 weeks. Certain factors such as body tissue content, developmental stage and fetal postion can affect the ability to determine sex. If we are unable to confidently determine the gender, we will bring you back for a free rescan.
If you cannot wait until 14 weeks, we offer Sneak Peek Gender DNA Testing as early as 6 weeks.
What is 8K, Real View Image?
We are excited to announce we are now offering 8K, Real View Imaging, for an additional cost of $30 to your 3D/4D package. This is best after 26 weeks with a clear HD ultrasound image. The 8K process will take place after your ultrasound. You will be able to select 1 of your images, then it will be sent to Spain!! From there they will enhance your image that you have selected. The process takes 5-7 business days and will be emailed to you as soon as it’s done!
Is this ultrasound covered by insurance?
No. This is an elective procedure so insurance companies do not cover it. We do accept cash, card, apple pay, google pay, or cash app. We cannot accept personal checks.
Do I need a release form signed by my doctor?
We do not require a release form by your doctor for our elective ultrasound exams. However, we do require that you are under the care of a doctor or midwife. You will need to sign our waiver with your healthcare provider’s information.
What is your refund policy?
We have a no refund policy. We do, however, have a rescan policy.
What is your rescan policy?
We understand that sometimes baby can be shy. For all packages that apply, we will offer one complimentary re-scan in the event we cannot determine gender at 14+ weeks or are unable to get partial face images. Rescans are not offered on Saturday and must be done within a week of your original appointment or a $35 fee may apply.
